Julie Schmidt Wood Artist

As a child I learned to appreciate art made from various artists in my family. I have always wanted to learn as many new skills as possible and was raised to know there was nothing that couldn’t be achieved with a little hard work and some planning.

In 2008 I inherited an heirloom lathe that had been my grandfathers. I restored the lathe and took it to a local woodcraft to get advice on how to make it work. I ended up not being able to fix the lathe, but watched a woodturning demonstration and I was hooked.

I have now been a woodturner and artist for the past 13 years. I currently live and work in Monkton, Maryland and hold memberships in The Chesapeake Woodturners, First State Woodturners, Chicago Woodturners, The American Association of Woodturners and am also a club liason for the Women in turning group within the AAW.

My work is featured in galleries and available through various art shows.

No artist can be successful without a nurturing environment. I am truly blessed to have the constant support of my husband, family and so many talented friends and mentors. I hope to be creating my art full-time within the next few years and for the rest of my life. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
